Coming Soon! To a Campground Near You!
One week from today, I’ll be waking up in Squeaky, my first morning of at least nine months on the road. As I write this, I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I’m also giddy because yesterday I got my final Covid-19 vaccination. I’m planning a low key weekend, in case I have side-effects.
The first stop on my solo journey will be LaPine State Park in Central Oregon, near Bend and Sisters. Once again, I volunteered to be a campground host. I thought that would be a good way to begin my trip. It will give me time to settle into living in Squeaky again and get Olive used to it. I’ll be there for a month, then come back to Portland for a few days to visit friends—we should all be past vaccination time by then—drop a few things off and then head out for a true nomadic lifestyle.
I’ll be heading first to Montana, one of my favorite places to visit, to meet up with my brother who is flying out from Boston. We’ll travel around the state for a week and after I drop him off, Olive and I will be on our own.
My plan is to start heading East for a family reunion in New York in August. Not sure which route I’m taking, but considering the Northern route, so I can see North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. (If anyone has traveled that route and has suggestions, I’d love to hear them.)
I’ve spent the last few months working on some business ideas to encourage other solo women travelers and earn a little traveling money. I held two Introduction to RV Travel workshops, which were a huge success. I’ll set another one up once I’m settled in at LaPine and know how strong my wifi signal will be.
I’ve also been working with JDesigns to create a logo and some cute products to sell. My website is being redesigned and once it’s live, you’ll be able to buy stickers. We hope to add t-shirts and some other products if those go well. Here’s a sneak peek at one of the designs.
I’m also recording a podcast where I’ll feature tips and interviews for solo women RVers and campers. I’ve got three episodes recorded, but am struggling a little with the editing. If anyone has experience in GarageBand and wants to help out, let me know. As soon as I get five episodes recorded and ready to go, I’ll make it live.
Plan to hear from me a bit more often, once I’m out on the road. I’ve started a “Travel Tip Tuesday” on my Instagram, so if you don’t follow me there yet, head over to @kbelge. Each week I’ll drop one short travel hack. My first one is about traveling with Olive, so go check it out.
