Can you get Amazon in Yellowstone National Park?

I reached out to the staff at Yellowstone National Park Lodges, which operates the 9 lodges and 5 of the campgrounds in Yellowstone to ask the question. Can I get an Amazon package delivered to me at Yellowstone? The answer: Yes, but we don’t recommend it.

Yellowstone is a rural location and Amazon delivery can be unreliable. According to the staff member I spoke with, a lot of times the package doesn’t arrive until after the guest has left the park and is long gone. I imagine there’s a room somewhere stuffed with unclaimed packages from hotel and camping guests.

I also imagine they don’t have the staff to deal with tracking down and returning those packages to the guests who missed their delivery.

Does Amazon deliver to campgrounds in Yellowstone National Park?

According to the Yellowstone Lodge staffer, Amazon can deliver to the campgrounds in Yellowstone. They will not deliver to your campsite, but to the campground office. But again, the Yellowstone National Park Lodges does not recommend having an Amazon package shipped to your campground in Yellowstone National Park. It’s likely you won’t receive your package when you need it and that it will arrive after you’ve left. It could be a big hassle.

How to receive a package at a campground

In the case of Yellowstone, if you decide to risk it and have a package delivered to your campground, you would pick it up at the campground office. Keep in mind there are 12 campgrounds in Yellowstone National Park and not all of them will have the ability to accept packages.

So What’s a better option than getting an Amazon package delivered to you in Yellowstone?

Getting an Amazon package inside Yellowstone is iffy, so it’s best to have a package delivered to you at one of the towns near the entrances to the park. Here are some places I found near Yellowstone entrances that accept Amazon delivery. Some of them are small private businesses, so expect to pay a fee beyond what you’ve already paid to have Amazon ship. The fee will cover the business receiving and holding the package for you until you can come pick it up.

I highly recommend calling ahead to these businesses to confirm they are still receiving Amazon packages and to let them know that you’re expecting a package and when you plan to pick it up.

What About Amazon Hub or Lockers in Yellowstone?

As of this writing January 2023, there are no Amazon Hubs or Lockers in Jackson, Gardiner nor West Yellowstone near the entrances of Yellowstone. There are Amazon lockers in some places further away from the park, so if you’re making your way and will be passing through a larger town, such as Missoula, it’s possible you can get a package sent to an Amazon locker there.

Here are some alternatives to having an Amazon (or other) package sent to Yellowstone National Park. Remember many of these small businesses rely on seasonal visitors and tourists to keep their doors open. Support a small business if you can.

A note about Wi-Fi and Cell Service inside Yellowstone

Cell service inside Yellowstone National Park is spotty and not reliable. There are cell towers close to some of the more populated areas of the park such as Mammoth Hot Springs, Old Faithful and Grant Village. The North and Western parts of the park have better coverage than the East and South, as I discovered when my van broke down in Yellowstone and I needed to ride my bike five miles to a ranger station who then drove me to where I could get cell signal.

The point is, you should not rely on cell service while in Yellowstone to track your package, to place orders or even to make phone calls. Especially during the summer and busy seasons, the number of users can overwhelm the cell towers that do exist. Sometimes texts go through. Sometimes they do not.

Wi-Fi is available for registered guests at the Yellowstone lodges, but is not available if you’re not staying at one of the lodges. (I know, I tried.) Campgrounds do not have wifi and most of them do not have cell signal. Free Wi-Fi is available at the Albright Visitor Center in Mammoth Hot Springs.

Conclusion: Does Amazon Deliver to Yellowstone National Park?

Amazon does deliver inside Yellowstone, but it’s not recommended as packages often do not make it to the intended recipient on time. Instead, use one of shipping stores outside the park to ensure you get your Amazon package delivered to Yellowstone National Park.
